The Whitehall-Yearling Rams Baseball Team Seniors got the chance of a lifetime to have one more opportunity to “Swing for the Fences.” This event was put on by the local Triple A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, the Columbus Clippers. As baseball teams across the state and country missed out on their season due to the pandemic, the Columbus Clippers found a way to let the seniors go out on not a quite so sour note. Teams from across the state were granted access to the finest two acres of Kentucky Bluegrass they’ll ever see. Each team was given an hour to take batting practice at Huntington Park. Prior to the batting practice, the Clippers’ Organization put each player on the Jumbotron, introduced them over the loudspeaker along with their parents, and presented the mothers with a Rose. From then on Corey Snider, Bradley Buchert, Trae Suarez, Garin Barnes, and James Lehew put forth a valiant effort to knock one out of the park. Metaphorically they were successful!!!!! The boys took several rounds of batting practice complete with walk-up music and perfect strikes from Coach DeRing. Athletic Director Bill Hughett manned SS, and man it was like watching Barry Larkin out there. A couple family members shagged balls in the outfield and the day was capped with a run around the bases.
