Rams News · WYHS Boys Soccer improves to 3 W and 0 L in the season by defeating Pickerington Central 2- 1 @ the Mike Ferguson stadium for its home opener.

WYHS Rams pull off a tough 2 – 1  win by defeating division 1 opponent Pickerington Central at home on goals by junior Jesus Yanez and junior Daba Hordofe. The Rams entered the game after defeating Logan looking to continue their winning streak to 3 games. Senior Yared Yesuf started off the attack for the Rams by creating a chance for himself early in the first half through his hustle and speed. The game was played evenly for most of the first half. Central had a goal taken away after the referee calls a foul against the Rams and at the whistle the ball lands on a player for Central and he shoots to find the back of the net after the whistle. Junior  Jesus Yanez scores a beautiful 25 yard free kick shot with 2 minutes remaining by perfectly finding the right side of the net right before the half. The goal was a good way to end the half on a positive note.

The Rams begin the second half on the offensive and through technical passing, were able to create chances for themselves and were moving the ball effectively laterally. The Rams suffer a ankle injury to key offensive player Jesus Yanez in the second half, who had to seat out the second half after the injury. The Rams our optimistic for a return by Jesus Yanez within a week or two.

Key subs Junior Jordan Burchnell and Daba Hordofe were instrumental on the attack as the Rams create a beautiful attack through their passing through a combination of Kirubel Ameri making a key pass to  Yared Yesuf, who attacks the defense and with a precise pass across the field find Daba, who puts the ball in the back of the net.  With a 2-0 lead the Rams has to keep fighting after Central scores in the game with 8 minutes remaining. Per usual, Senior Captain Jefferson Martinez has another stellar performance as he leads the defense by playing a position that the team needs at center back. Senior Jonathan Guijosa is also making significant contribution by using his speed to defend and attack. Rams next opponent are league foe Grandview Heights. Let’s go Rams and keep up the great work.
